New York City is a great place to do a lot of dancing. Not only there are classes on whatever dance you desire, but people are forming communities, practicing in the clubs, and generally are super into whatever they are doing.
I wanted to try something new, so I signed up for the Vogue dance class. Voguing was developed in to 80’ in the clubs by queer men. The dance is supposed to mimic the fashion models’ movement. It is bold, it is glamorous, there are a lot of hands movement, a lot of hips, boobies, and once in a while dancers shout out loud “cunt” just for the rhythm purposes.
During Vogue practice men were in the majority of attendees. I was impressed by how freely they are able to express their feminine side. I felt like in a femme queen haven. I rarely felt this much of Yin energy in the room, although I tend to end up in most-girls environments in the past. I went to an artsy high school, I was a flight attendant, and both of those environments consisted mostly of women. Yet vogue class had a new perspective to offer.
Monster – the instructor, encouraged everybody to show off their pussy, which meant hyper-expressing their inner sexy, femme attitude. He sang the lyrics of some song, or maybe he just made that up – “my pussy tastes like french toast”, and everyone went full out expressing their thing.
At that moment, I felt like my pussy might be a bit less than the pussies of some guys on the dance floor. They were fabulous. The moves, the attitude, the confidence. I wanted that confidence too! Hence, I tried harder, to show off my pussy, and to stretch my waist, and to roll my hips, and to flick my hair even more than I did. And then it struck me. Should we women learn femininity from gay men? Perhaps that’s not a bad idea.
